Almost, Always

Tsuyoshi Suzuki's Solo Exhibition

A Space Gallery is pleased to present Almost, Always, a solo exhibition by Tsuyoshi Suzuki, on view from February 20 to February 22. Working primarily with rusted steel, Suzuki draws attention to the unseen, unfocused hours that shape who we are, the quiet time spent alone with ourselves, outside of exhibitions, recognition, and validation. By allowing steel sheets to oxidize and become the surface for drawing, he embraces time, decay, and chance as collaborators, turning what is usually considered undesirable into a subtle, grounded form of beauty.

In contrast to the polished, finished surfaces often associated with value and success, rust speaks to slow transformation. Its textures hold traces of resistance, erosion, and accumulated time. Suzuki’s works mirror how people are shaped not by moments of visibility, but by the uncelebrated hours that often feel boring, unnoticed, or even uncomfortable. These marks of wear become records of living, suggesting that imperfection and deterioration are not flaws, but evidence of presence and endurance.

Born in Tokyo in 1998, Tsuyoshi Suzuki earned a B.A. in Studio Art from Eastern Illinois University in 2021 before relocating to New York to pursue his full-time practice. Through his ongoing exploration of “drawing with rust on steel,” Suzuki continues to push the boundaries of material and process, positioning time itself as an essential part of the work. Almost, Always reflects on states of becoming rather than arrival—where what seems incomplete or overlooked quietly defines who we are. The opening reception will take place on Friday, February 20, from 6–9 PM.
