Lacquer Workshop |
Carving a Golden Moment

This late-summer afternoon, we invite you to slow down—

pick up a carving knife, etch your own patterns into the lacquer surface,

and bring them to life with shimmering gold powder.

This is Chinkin, a traditional East Asian lacquer technique—

quiet, intricate, and full of surprises hidden in the details.

Under the guidance of artist Zhiheng Gong, you will:

🪶Try your hand at carving unique designs into lacquer

🪶Learn how to combine gold powder with natural lacquer

🪶Take home your very own hand-finished lacquer board

Date & Time: Saturday, August 16th, 2:00 – 6:30 PM

Venue: A Space Gallery, 13 Grattan St #402, Brooklyn, NY 11206

Fee: $100 (includes all tools and materials for in-class use)

Takeaway: Your completed lacquer board (tools provided for workshop use only)

Small group of 6 participants. No experience required.

Let your hands and mind breathe in the quiet glow of gold.
