Sumi Zhang

Sumi Zhang (b. 1998, Dali) is a New York City-based artist specializing in illustration and tattoo design. Her work is primarily character-driven, visually exploring the states of existence in the present moment. In addition to illustration and tattoo art, Sumi experiments with textile arts, transforming her 2D works into sculptures and plush dolls through sewing and pattern-making.

Sumi completed her BFA in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts. She is a resident tattoo artist at Vacation Forever in Manhattan and also works as a freelance illustrator. Her work has been featured in vintage stores across Manhattan and Brooklyn, including Women’s History Museum Vintage and By Liv Williamsburg. She has also participated in a tattoo event hosted by Climate Café in Brooklyn. Currently, Sumi works at A Space Gallery, where she continues to expand her multidisciplinary practice.
