Seirim Yoon
Seirim Yoon (b. 1996, Seoul, Korea) is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York. She graduated with an MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in 2024 and received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019. She works with the concept of past images that distort and fade due to the tricks of memory. Specifically, she explores the psychological concept of GestaltzerFall, in which people fixate on a complex object, causing it to break into pieces and form a new image due to delayed recognition. She applies it to the process of recalling memories, visualizing how they exist and evolve in our lives. Her art reflects this state by portraying the breakdown of structures and showcasing altered and faded scenes from memory through a screen. Different dimensions merge to create new environments, while rough brushstrokes signify the passage of time. Vibrant colors symbolize the altered screens we use to revisit our memories. Her work was published in the notable art publication Hyperallergic. Her solo exhibitions include 정착 (2023, Seoul, Korea) and A4 Margin (2020, Seoul, Korea). Her duo exhibitions include Current: 유동 (2024, Boston, USA) and BackDrop (2021, Seoul, Korea).
