Call for NYC Artists
4th Art Colony: Heterotopia
A Space Gallery is pleased to unveil its new residency program, "Heterotopia." This initiative seeks to nurture a dynamic community of artists, fostering creativity and collaboration through a distinctive, immersive residency experience.
"Heterotopia" invites artists to explore a former hospital in New York, a site that embodies Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopia—spaces where history, memory, and transformation coexist. Once a place of isolation and healing, this abandoned site now stands as a surreal and forgotten
landscape. Its blend of decay and resilience offers a powerful environment for artists to explore the layered experiences of space, time, and identity, making it an ideal setting for creative reinterpretation.
A Space will provide transportation to the ruins and necessary equipment, including flashlights, gloves, first aid kits, and masks. The program includes a five-day residency at A Space gallery (24-hour access), followed by an exhibition (October 31 – November 10, 2024).
Note: Artists may bring previous works if they fit the theme.
