I'm tired of making content, can u pls come to vivmoe's solo show, thanks, presents a new body of work by German artist Viv Moench, known as vivmoe, whose hyperrealistic paintings examine the unstable boundary between physical reality and the digital world. Using the language of trompe- l’œil, vivmoe paints screens, interfaces, frames, reflections, digital traces, and seemingly empty surfaces with an almost unsettling precision. Her images often feel instantly familiar, yet the longer one looks, the harder they become to place. A browser-like window, an empty frame, or a digital surface may first register as something ordinary, then slowly begin to feel strange. This shift gives her paintings their particular hold on the viewer. The visual language of the screen, usually consumed quickly and almost unconsciously, is slowed down through the physical process of painting. Familiar digital forms become objects of sustained attention, exposing how much of what we see is shaped by habit, expectation, and memory.
Vivmoe’s work draws from quantum physics, philosophy, digital culture, and questions around cognition and cultural memory. Ideas such as entanglement and non-locality inform her understanding of reality as something produced through relationships, observation, and systems that are often invisible to us. Her recent work also looks at the way knowledge, images, and histories are stored and encountered online, where enormous archives are reduced to screens, feeds, search results, and algorithmically organized encounters. Emptiness appears repeatedly in this context as a charged visual space. In ifyourereadingthisitsallsaid, a seemingly empty framed surface includes an instruction asking the viewer to use ChatGPT to generate a painting. The work brings authorship, artificial intelligence, expectation, and perception into the same encounter. Its logic also connects closely to the exhibition’s deliberately casual title. In a culture built around constant production, posting, and circulation, vivmoe turns toward the moment when there seems to be nothing left to show, and asks what might still be present inside that apparent emptiness.
About the Artist
Viv Moench, alias vivmoe (b. 1992), is a German visual artist whose hyperrealistic paintings explore the shifting boundaries between physical reality and digitality. Drawing from quantum physics, philosophy, and digital culture, her practice examines perception, memory, artificial intelligence, and the invisible systems through which images and meaning are constructed. Using trompe-l’œil as a method of deconstruction, she often engages with emptiness not as absence, but as a space of latent possibility. Her work ifyourereadingthisitsallsaid, which investigates authorship, AI, and perception through the illusion of an empty surface, received third prize in the 2025 Sparkasse Karlsruhe Art Award and is now held in the bank’s permanent collection. vivmoe has exhibited internationally, including at Unit 1 Gallery in London and A Space Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, continuing to position painting as both a site of illusion and a tool for examining contemporary reality.
