David Benarroch

David Benarroch is an artist who works in sculpture, drawing, and installation. He lives and works between Durham, NC and Madrid, Spain. His works lie in exploring in material form dynamic notions such as process, gesture, and movement. His practice involves an intimate relationship with the medium and often the materials are elements that carry both a symbolic value and a concrete use. He primarily works with malleable materials which he manipulates by the use of his hands while they are in transition from liquid to solid: Driven by the “will” of the material, rather than a predefined outcome. Benarroch received His Bachelor's and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, alongside his studies at l’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He received international awards and grants, including He received awards for his work from various foundations and institutions, including the Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Grant Award (2024); the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2022); the SU Collection Prize (Estampa, 2022); the Navacerada Collection Prize (Estampa, 2021); the merit prize from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (2017); the Berman Foundation grant for Institute of Investigative Living, A-Z West residency (2016).
