Thinking in the Borderlands: Beyond the Human
September 3 - September 30, 2025

A Space is pleased to present the first exhibition of the Thinking in the Borderland series – Beyond the Human, an online exhibition interrogating the themes that centralise the humanist, and oftentimes Eurocentric perspectives. Drawing from the theory of Border thinking by Walter Mignolo, the exhibition series challenges contemporary epistemologies that are still haunted by imperial logic—those that seek to categorize, segregate, and enclose. This exposition is a vital demonstration of phenomena marginalized by dominant discourse, amplifying voices from geographical, linguistic, and cultural borders. In the chapter Beyond the Human, the exhibition demonstrates the possible cosmologies that exist amongst us, yet remain uncaptured by the mainstream representation. The displayed narratives coerce subtle emotional, psychological, and cross-cultural narratives that are yet to be named and clarified by locutionary expressions.

He is also the co-founder of Radical Character, an educational and curatorial initiative that explores speculative intersections between design and culture, with a focus on practices emerging from within and beyond Chinese and Chinese American communities.

Overall, the online exhibition oversees an expansive and diverse continuum of works that engage intimately with the reflective perspective that ‘Border thinking’ advocates. By conceptualising not only about but from within the border, the artworks have demonstrated the required diligence and courage to suggest possible revolutionary opportunities. Through these gentle and personal cosmologies that the common reality often outpaces and overlooks, the audience is able to find resonance for pigments of their own world views and identities that may have been overshadowed in the information age and throughout social progression. Afterall, the truth to the self takes only gentle reminders to reignite.
